Poetry is a form of art in which language is used for its aesthetics and evocative qualities. Poetry can be discrete poems or used in conjunction with other arts such as poetic drama, hymns or lyrics.Poetry has had a long history. Aristotle's Poetics focused on the uses of speech in drama, rhetoric, comedy and song. While later attempts focused on features such as rhyme and repetition, emphasizing the aesthetics which distinguished poetry from prose. By mid to late in the 20th century poetry had become more loosely defined as a creative act using language.Different forms of poetry are used by different cultures and genres. However in today's globalised world poets will often borrow different techniques, styles and forms from other cultures and languages.
